What is a moonphase watch?

With a moonphase watch you can always have control of the moon's actual placement in the sky. The moon's form varies throughout the month depending on the phase the moon finds itself in. The moon goes through 8 phases but only 4 of these are visible on the moon phase watch.

  1. New moon - the moon is positioned between the earth and the sun which means that the moon is not visible for us here on earth.
  2. First quarter - the moon is half visible (right side) from the earth.
  3. Full moon - seen from earth the moon is fully lighted up by the sun.
  4. Last quarter - the moon is half visible on the left side.

How the watch works

How do you control a moonphase watch's variations naturally from model to model? Underneath, we have created a short guide on how to setup the Dissing Moonphase watch, so you can start using your new Moonphase watch straight away.

  1. Pull out the crown (2).
  2. Adjust the moonphase display on the clock's dial
    • Turn the crown clockwise until the full moon pops up in the display on the watch dial - i.e. the moon is in the middle of the display. And yes, it can easily take some time, since you need to do it manually.
  3. Adjust the weekdays
    • Next step is to adjust the watch's weekday display for when it was recently full moon. You can find the exact date for the most recent full moon here. I. e. you want to setup the moonphase watch around the start of June 2021. Then you should install the weekday to Wednesday, when the last full moon appeared on the 26th of May 2021.
  4. Set the date
    • Before you set the date, you should set the time to 6 AM.
    • Now you should set the date for the last full moon as described above in step 3.
    • The date is set at the hour marker 4, whereby you have to press the button on the side of the watch with a sharp object. For every press, you push the date one day. When you have setup the watch to the date where a full moon recently appeared, you can proceed to the next step.
  5. Set the time
    • With the weekdays and date setup, all you need to do it turn the crown clockwise so that it matches the actual date on the actual time.
  6. Push the crown in again (0) and congratulations, you are done! You now have the moon's phases right on your wrist.
